Refined elegance, solid, durable, reliable and with an ambience that is hard to describe, much less reproduce. There is a reason the Sig Sauer P226 was the sidearm of choice for US Navy Seal Teams for a generation. It’s a beautiful, deadly reliable piece of deadly technology that served the civilian, law enforcement and armed forces with incredible efficiency.

Glocks have their admirers, Springfield .45 ACP Model 1911s have a fan following, but the P226 generates almost a cultlike audience. Yes, the pistol is that good. Sig Sauer created a beauty in designing this pistol. They spent three years developing this handgun from 1980 to 1983 before releasing it to wide acclaim in 1984. The intervening four decades hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm for this pistol.

This is a full sized, balanced handgun, with heft, excellent grip that feels surprisingly good in your hand. Some pistols just have a “feel” and a Sig Sauer P226 has it. It’s intangible, but once you’ve gripped a handgun that just feels right in your hands, you’ll never go back again.

Often compared in terms to the mechanics of a “Swiss Watch” there is a connection with Sig Sauer and the quiet effectiveness of Swiss technology. Though manufactured in Germany, Sig originated in Switzerland.

The P226 is available in seven versions, the Luger, X-Five, MK25, Scorpion, DA/SA, Legion and the special 40th anniversary edition. Each is a classic with subtle differences that match the wants and needs of nearly everyone interested in a high quality, intricately engineered handgun.

Available with either a 4.4 or 5-inch barrel, the P226 has magazine capacities of 10, 15 and a whopping 20 rounds based on model. All of these versions come in the widely available 9mm. It’s an effective, inexpensive, ubiquitous cartridge that is universally available, and it’s deadly. With standard features like Sig Sauer’s proprietary SIGLITE Night Sights and Retro Hoge Alloy Grips this is a masterpiece of design. The weight, slightly in excess of two pounds, eliminates almost all recoil and the size enables shooters of all dimensions to accurately lay down tight patterns.

  • Luger – You won’t find a more attractive pistol than the 5-inch Luger with a stainless-steel barrel and bright, rosewood grips. This is a heavy handgun at almost 46 ounces and weighs even more when the 20-round magazine is full. At 8.6-inches it’s a large pistol.
  • MK25 – A pistol with 7.7-inches of deadly, beautiful effectiveness in a black-on-black design of black Nitron finish with black polymer grips. A 15-round magazine and a light, empty weight of just 34-ounces make it easy to maneuver.
  • Scorpion – Inspired by the tan deserts of Afghanistan and Iraq, the Scorpion brings the sting of this deadly desert insect to the palm of your hand. A full-sized pistol with all the Sig Sauer features its design of desert tan on desert tan barrel and grips is a striking image.
  • DA/SA -With a reduced, contoured Elite beavertail design, and a lower profile, this full-sized pistol is within the limits of concealed carry for men wearing loose clothing. The low profile and undercut trigger guard make it an excellent choice for self-defense.
  • Legion – The flagship of the P226 line, the Legion features a 10-round magazine, X-Ray Day/Night Siglite sights and weighs just over two pounds. Black G10 grips augment Legion Gray finish creating an image any Las Vegas Raider fan would be proud of.
  • 40th Anniversary Edition – A limited production model, designed to honor the four-decade history of the P226, the Anniversary edition features a 15-round magazine, set with a Black Nitron finish and black Retro Hogue alloy grips. This is a classic that honors the exemplary history of Sig Sauer pistols.
  • X-Five – A whopping 20-round magazine wrapped around a pistol that weighs almost three pounds empty, the X-Five won’t deliver a lot of recoil. Attractive with a stainless-steel finish set against the backdrop of Hogue G10 Piranha Grips this is a gorgeous handgun that you can load on Sunday and shoot all week.
