FN 509 9mm Pistols

The FN 509 manufactured by FN Herstal is a compact pistol that has evolved since it was first introduced. There are now 15 versions of the FN 509 in 9mm and each one is crafted for optimum performance, with many compact enough for concealed carry. Reliable, accurate and a great choice for personal protection in a slim, easy to conceal design are the hallmarks of the FN 509.

FN Herstal based the FN 509 Compact on their popular 509 striker-fired duty gun. The FN 509 Compact is smaller, making it a better choice for concealed carry. Ambidextrous, it has a high-visibility front dot sight, magazines of 10, 12 or 15 and a loaded chamber indicator.

Many compact pistols have slim grips, but the FN 509 Compact comes with the standard 1.35-inch grip of the original 509, making it easier to hold, more stable to fire and offers reduced recoil while retaining a valid concealed carry footprint. The tactical version of the FN 509 has suppressor height sights and a threaded barrel.

The FN 509 Compact is a great combination of concealment with the ability to perform well on the range or in a self-defense situation.

The FN 509 Midsize is similar in size and weight to the Glock 19. If you’re looking for a smaller handgun, not as large as a full duty/combat sized pistol, but that offers similar performance and handling, the FN 509 Midsize is worth a look. As with all FN 509 pistols, it has a 1.35-inch-wide grip, and full ambidextrous controls.

Herstal offers a low-profile optic mounting system available with a removable optic plate on some models of the FN 509. These plate adaptors can mount more than 10 different sights. Each FN 509 has co-witness front and rear sights.

Standard magazines are 10 or 15-round and finishes in either black or FDE are available. The FN 509 Midsize offers a trigger and manual safety.

Patterned after the FN 509 Compact, the FN 509 Duty Gun is a step up in the size and performance you’d expect in a duty gun. The FN 509 Duty Gun was extensively tested before release with more than 1,000,000 rounds fired during testing.

A non-manual safety, and the larger size make it a good choice as a duty gun, but it retains a small enough footprint to be used in larger concealed carry situations. A four-inch barrel, and longer grips can hold a 17-round magazine. This is not an all-purpose concealed carry handgun, but with larger shooters, bulkier clothing or in extreme cold conditions it serves the concealed carry role well.
