Sig Sauer P322 22 LR Pistols
(3)What is it about .22 Long Rifle, rimfire ammunition that feels like fun? Maybe you grew up shooting a .22 or maybe you discovered them later in life, but the inexpensive cost of the ammunition, the pop of recoil free shooting along with the range and surprising power of such a small cartridge all create that fun.
Sig Sauer got in on the fun with the P322. It’s a very light, easy to carry handgun and it cycles cartridges effectively and rapidly with just a flick of your finger. It uses a hammer-fired-single-action operating system (SA0) creating a very reliable, steady rate of fire.
There are a few caveats on the P322. The first is that the magazine must be carefully loaded so no shells are out of alignment. If they are, you stand a good chance of jamming the pistol. The second is the lack of quality holsters. The two that are available are hard-sided, a design not popular with everyone.
This is a lightweight pistol at 17-ounces, just over a pound. That lighter weight is achieved by an aluminum slide and polymer grips. It offers front and rear slide serrations and angular side cuts making it look similar to Sig Sauer’s P320 and P365, two of their most popular centerfire pistols.
The P322 features fiber optic sights, flat and curved interchangeable trigger shoes and ambidextrous controls. Left-handed shooters will enjoy this feature. The pistol was intended for recreational shooting and as a plinking handgun, you can’t beat the features, performance and price of a .22 Long Rifle pistol.
The P322 is often used as a first pistol for youngsters and novices and is widely used on youth shooting teams and in basic firearm training. It has all the fell, imagery and style of larger Sig Sauer pistols, but with lower weight, virtually no recoil and at a reduced price.
