Sig Sauer P220 Pistols
(3)The debate has raged for decades, which is a better self-defense caliber, the venerable .45 ACP or the 10mm. Opinions vary, but Sig Sauer eliminated the discussion by offering both cartridges in the P220 semi-automatic pistol.
Sig Sauer is a world leader in pistol design, and the P220 is at the forefront of their technology. The P220 has become the face of the company since its inception 50 years ago as an improvement to the venerable Sig Sauer P210.
This is a fast, accurate reliable pistol with an eight-round magazine and all the features you’d expect to find in a moderately priced, modern semi-automatic handgun. The ease of handling, diminished recoil thanks to a weight of almost two pounds and the secure grips and safety features Sig Sauer has installed all make the P220 an excellent choice for personal protection. The P220 is popular with law enforcement and military use worldwide, and the trademark “Made in West Germany” is a reminder of its roots dating back to the Cold War.
The P220 packs all the bells and whistles you’d expect in one of the world’s greatest handguns. It features a dual-mode single or double-action firing system. In single action mode the trigger pull is set at a relatively light 4.4 pounds, while in double-action, a bit more pressure, 10 pounds, is needed as a safety feature to fire the pistol.
Included are an accessory rail, SIGLITE Night Sights and a four-point safety system. The safety system consists of a firing pin block, a decocking lever, a trigger bar disconnector and a safety intercept notch. Sig Sauer did their due diligence in making this deadly piece of technology as safe as possible.
Each P220 arrives with a pair of eight-round magazines, and the size is suitable for concealed carry with a barrel length of 4.4 inches and an overall length of 7.7. Black polymer grips add to the Black Nitron finish making this both a formidable and an artistic style of pistol.
- P220 – In .45 ACP you have a couple of choices in style. One is the all black P220 and the other features a great body with black accent grips. The functionality is the same, just the appearance is different. The 10mm version of the P220 is a beast in comparison to its .45 ACP counterpart. Tipping the scales at 44 ounces it is a substantial handgun. The barrel is slightly longer at five-inches and the overall 8.8-inch length puts it on the edge for concealed carry.
- P220 Legion – You’ll have to look close to find the differences between the P220 and the P220 Legion, they are subtle, but they are there. The obvious difference is three magazines with the Legion versus two for the standard P220. The slide sports Sig Sauer’s proprietary Electro-Optics X-Ray high visibility sights. The front cocking serrations provide improved cycling when clearing the pistol or doing press checks. The price is a bit higher than the standard P220 as well.
