Some might argue that the Heckler and Koch VP9 is an aging pistol design, but that statement ignores the classic design, superior grip ergonomics, overall reliability and unique trigger qualities. The VP9 remains a viable pistol in an age constantly bombarded with new designs. The polymer design, striker-fired pistol is so popular among its many users that it’s said to be on the brink of cult status among serious pistol users.

Heckler and Koch took their time in developing the original VP9. It evolved in four years of intensive design and testing into a classic handgun. Featuring a “light Pull” trigger, ambidextrous controls, and extended military standard 1913 picatinny rail and a flat recoil spring, it is a classic of design. Add to the many features a cold hammer forged barrel made from cannon grade steel, a corrosive resistant finish that makes this pistol at home in any climate setting, and a special trigger with consistent pre-travel pull and a crisp break and you have all the features you could ask for in a self-defense or competition pistol.

Ergonomic, adjustable grip. An angled grip, contoured from strap and high read saddle enhance this pistol to fit your hand perfectly. An adjustable grip frame designed to interchange both backstraps and grip panels in an amazing 27 unique configurations allows you to fit the contours of your hand intimately. In conjunction, these features provide the same consistent grip every time your reach for your VP9.

Best-in-class trigger. The competition hasn’t caught up with the VP trigger. It’s short, light take-up and solid, single action style break follows a short, positive reset.

Striker Fired. A striker fired ignition, combined with a modified Browning operating system and an optimal precision trigger control system highlights the firing mechanism of the VK9. This creates a premium HK P30 style frame attached to an advanced striker fired slide. Proprietary HK steel in the barrel, slide, springs, pins and internal components guarantees durability.

Optics-Ready. Early VP9 models did not have an optics-ready option. There are models in development that are optic-ready but for now, the VP9 utilized a slightly older design using an independent plate. The optic screws into a plate, and the plate is also attached by screws. The plate screws into the slide with the optic screwing into the plate. Lugs absorb some of the force so it’s not all applied to the screws. This older style mount works well with higher mounted red dot sights.

New mounting solutions use multiple pins and screw holes to mount the optic to the slide with no plate, lowering the mount height. The Holosum SCS VP9 is another option for the VP9. It is a sight designed to mount directly to the VP9.

Cold Hammer Forged Polygonal Bore. Propellant gases are sealed behind the bullet thanks to a polygonal bore profile. This increases bullet velocity and decreases wear. The durability of a polygonal bore outlasts the conventional “lines-and-grooves” barrel by thousands of rounds. The polygonal barrel was one of the many radical design changes used on the HK P7 series, and is brought to the current HK handgun line.

Reinforced Polyamide (Polymer) Frame. Reinforce polyamide is a game-changing material first used on the P9S pistol in the 1960s. These advanced polymers caught the market’s attention for major components and assemblies used on many HK products. The receiver of the MP5 was one of the first to use polymers. The molding ability of these polymers led to the creation of the VP70, a futuristic-looking firearm. Heckler and Koch were leaders in polymers, a decade-and-a-half ahead of their competitors. HK remains a leader in the innovative use of high-strength polyamides.
