The Universal Self-loading Pistol was an innovative design when it was introduced three decades ago. Popular with American law enforcement and military use, this design focuses on safety. The 10 versions of safeties available with this pistol fit the needs of every user. This moderately priced handgun is available in three popular calibers, .45 ACP, 9mm and standard .40 caliber.

The pistol features a unique combination of fiber-reinforced polymer frame components stiffened by steel at key, heavy use areas. Influenced by the legendary 1911 ACP design, the Heckler Koch USP is a great choice for personal defense that extends into the professional world of law enforcement, military and government applications.

Cold Hammer Forged Bore. Increased bullet velocity came with a new design by Heckler & Koch in the 1960s. The traditional design of lands-and-grooves rifling allowed gas to escape around the front of the bullet when the pistol was fired. H&K built a polygonal bore profile that seals propellant gases behind the bullet, increasing energy and velocity with a full charge. Polygonal barrels have better resistance to wear. Polygonal barrels usually outlast conventional lands-and-grooves by thousands of rounds. Polygonal barrels on the HK P7 series pistol was one of the radical designs for this popular handgun.

Reinforced Polyamide (Polymer) Frame. Advanced polymers entered the market in the late 1960s in the P9S pistol. Advanced polymers were quickly incorporated into the design of major components and assemblies on a variety of H&K models, including receivers on the MP5s in the late 60s. The futuristic VP70 is the result of the move to synthetic framed handguns. Heckler & Koch were forerunners in the use of polymers for over 15 years before competitors introduced the technology. H&K remain a leader in the use of high-strength, uniquely designed polyamides.
