Auto Ordnance 1911 Pistols
(2)The Auto Ordnance 1911 at a glance
The grandfather of all modern semi-automatics, and still considered the best by many pistol shooters, the venerable 1911 traces its roots to legendary designer John Browning. Originally designed for combat it quickly transitioned to law enforcement and became the “go to” handgun for a wide variety of uses.
This design has been produced by dozens, perhaps hundreds of manufacturers around the world. It is efficient, accurate and throws a lot of lead, especially in .45 ACP. The 1911 has been replaced in military and police applications by Glock and Sig Sauer, among others, but it remains a treasured handgun for personal defense and target shooting.
Auto Ordnance offers their 1911 in both 9mm and .45 ACP. The .45 ACP version is packed into a compact 4.25-inch barrel length and offers a seven-round magazine. This is a powerful pistol in a size close to sub-compact. The 9mm has a black, carbon steel 5-inch barrel and the same seven round magazine capacity. The recoil on the slightly larger 9mm version is lighter than the .45 ACP thanks to a slightly heavier weight and less powerful cartridges.
