Mossberg SA-20 Semi Automatic Shotguns

There were once many more gauges for shotguns, with the eight-gauge a popular stagecoach protection model in the Old West and the tiny 40 gauge a choice for women or children. You don’t have to own a blunderbuss to get the job done hunting upland game birds, geese or turkeys, a 20-gauge will do the job just fine.

Mossberg introduced the SA 20 for smaller shooters or those that can’t handle the recoil of a 12 or 16-gauge shotgun. The SA 20 is a fast, gas-operated shotgun that arrives in two varieties, either the stand Turkey model or the Bantam. Both have impressive features, the greatest being that they’ll fit smaller shooters well.

You don’t to be built like a defensive tackle to enjoy shooting sports, both clays and game. A smaller 20-gauge, with its reduced recoil, delivers more than ample energy and pellets on target. A 20-gauge has the same range as a 12, it just places fewer pellets inside that magic 30-inch circle.

The SA 20 is most popular in 20-gauge, but you can get this remarkable smaller sized shotgun in the relatively rare 28-gauge or in .410. All three gauges offer much lighter recoil than you’ll find in a 12 or 16-gauge of similar size.

A five-shot magazine, combined with Mossberg’s smooth cycling gas-operated system provides fast, accurate firing with just the flick of your trigger finger. Interchangeable chokes give you the option of wider patterns for close range birds or home defense, or tighter chokes that concentrate the shot pattern closer together over distance as you would with goose, duck or turkey hunting.

This is a low-recoil, lightweight shotgun in both the Turkey and Bantam series. You can find varieties in Tactical, Turkey, All-Purpose or the standard SA 20. The lower recoil, combined with the shorter length, and the lighter weight makes the SA 20 easier to track targets, and more accurate since “Shooter’s Flinch” won’t be an issue.

Mossberg offers four versions of the SA 20. Each has a unique look, purpose and stock pattern, but all four are built on the same platform.

• SA 20 Tactical Turkey - A pistol grip, 39-inch overall length and a length of pull of only 12.75 inches and it comes with Fiber Optic Ghost Ring sights. This is a lightweight turkey gun with a 22-inch barrel and a four-shot magazine.
• SA 20 All-Purpose – A classic style shotgun that borders on art. The 26 inch-barrel, four-shot magazine, 6.5-pound weight and 46.5-inch overall length make this an ideal lightweight hunting gung. It comes with five interchangeable chokes from cylinder to full.
• SA 20 International – Like the original Ford Model T, this gun comes in any color you wish, as long as its black. This is a shotgun designed for competitive 20-gauge shooting but lends itself well to the field. Only 5.75-pounds, it is light and easy to track on target with surprisingly light recoil.
• SA 20 Bantam – Don’t let the name fool you, the Bantam packs a lot of punch with a 24-inch barrel length, combined with a short 12.5-inch length of pull. It comes with all five interchangeable chokes and is a perfect choice for someone of shorter stature.
