The Taurus G3 came out in 2019, engineered along the lines of the G2c, only with a larger frame and slide. This is a reliable pistol, nearly jam free and has an exceptional feel thanks to a grip design that encourages a high hand hold. This reduces muzzle rise when firing quickly.

Designed with quick restrike in mind, it has a faster cycling rate than most striker-fired pistols. This can result in a longer trigger pull, but it’s a balance of speed versus dexterity for the shooter. Available in 9mm, this is an inexpensive, compact pistol with most models having a larger magazine, either 15 or 17-round capacities are standard. Some models have a 10-round magazine.

All Standard and Tenifer models come with a four-inch barrel, which is a nice compromise between sub-compact lengths and the larger size of a standard pistol. For price, reliability, durability and reputation of manufacturer you can’t go wrong with a Taurus G3.

Considered a full-sized pistol, it’s on the smaller end of specs for that style and could be used for concealed carry on a larger person. The G3 has a six-pound trigger, a manual safety and a slide release lever. The twin trigger system is an innovative safety feature employed by Taurus. Fans enjoy the crisp break when pulling the trigger.

A stainless-steel barrel, polymer frame and varieties of matte or slick black finish creates a dynamic pistol that is attractive to the eye. The 1:10-inch twist provides great accuracy for a four-inch barrel.

An average weight of around 25 ounces is just enough to reduce recoil. Included is a Picatinny rail for mounting optics, a fixed front and drift adjustable rear sight and a pair of either 15 or 17-round magazines depending on the model. The nicest feature for many shooters are the grips which work well in all weather conditions.

The Taurus G3 with its brief history hasn’t been taken up by military agencies and their rigorous testing standards yet, but it is making inroads with law enforcement agencies.

This a great pistol for self-defense, training, security and target shooting. At its reasonable price it is a semi-automatic that just about anyone can afford.

The six-inch grooves, ample weight for size ratio and substantial magazines make this a good pistol to take to the range, or even for local shooting competitions.

  • Standard – The standard model G3 comes in different color schemes such as desert tan, black and gray or black over black, but the internal mechanisms are all identical, as are the features. Aside from color and a 10, 15 or 17-round magazine on certain models they are standard as the name implies.
  • Tenifer – The main difference between the Tenifer and the Standard is the finish on the slide. A Tenifer features, a slicker, Teflon style coating that is smoother than the matte finish on standard models.
  • Tactical – Slightly heavier at 25.8 ounces, the Tactical offers a 4.5-inch barrel and a slightly longer overall length of 7.76 inches. It has fixed front and adjustable rear sights and a 10-round magazine.
