Ruger 10/22 Semi Automatic Rifle

Ruger 10/22 Semi Automatic Rifle

The Ruger 10/22 is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle (LR) and is one of the most successful .22 LR designs on the market. It features a standard 10-round rotary magazine and comes with either iron sights, a scope mount, or a combination of the two.

Due to the long barrel and optimized rifling, the Ruger 10/22 takes most .22 LR loadings and turns them into very effective hunting rounds for small game. This is because the velocity threshold .22 LR was designed for is achieved with the various barrel lengths that Ruger provides.

This produces better control with little to no felt recoil which makes the 10/22 perfect for newer and experienced shooters alike. The Ruger 10/22 offers an affordable rifle with an affordable cartridge that can provide hours of entertainment while still retaining utility.

The 10/22 makes for an excellent small-game hunting rifle. The rifle shines as a great tool for squirrel hunting, pest control, and affordable long range practice. There are numerous different loadings for small game and bulk options for those who want to stock up on ammunition.

This means you get to spend more time shooting and less time looking for ammunition. While .22 LR does not have a lot of range, it does provide an affordable alternative for long range shooters. Using .22 LR at distance means you have to know how the round drops and where your holds are at specific distances. This directly transfers to more powerful long range options.

The Ruger 10/22 series provides just about any configuration of .22 LR shooting that you could want. Ruger is an all-American manufacturer providing this highly popular rimfire rifle with their time-tested action design.

Ruger has been producing some version of the 10/22 continuously since 1964. The popularity and consistency of this production isn’t just impressive: it also means that there are plenty of aftermarket parts and accessories to make sure the rifle meets your specific needs.

Built for Ergonomics

All variations of the Ruger 10/22 are chambered in .22 LR with a detachable 10-round rotary magazine, with a specialty rotor that keeps cartridges separate for easy feeding. The entire design seeks to provide an easy-to-use, comfortable rifle that still delivers the necessary power.

Ruger 10/22 standard features:

  • Ruger’s time-tested action
  • Detachable 10-round rotary magazine
  • Magazine release is prominent for no-fuss removal
  • Cold hammer-forged barrel
  • Two-screw V-block system locks barrel to receiver
  • Positive, push-button, cross-bolt manual safety
  • Scope base adapter accommodates both Weaver-style and .22 tip-off mounts
  • Heat-stabilized, glass-filled, polymer trigger housing assembly resists abrasion and the elements

The 10/22 comes in a number of configurations. The base model is referred to as the 10/22 Carbine. It comes with either a wooden or synthetic stock. Most models have the stock extend to roughly half of the barrel while others extend the lower end of the stock almost to the end of the barrel.

One particular style is designed to mimic the overall look of an M1 carbine while most of the other models are different camouflage patterns. Each pattern of 10/22 has its own model number. If you’re looking for a particular version you’ll have to look at its category and then match the model number to it. For example in order to find the classic 10/22 design you would look under “Carbine” with model number 1103 and you’ll get a wood stock, iron sighted 10/22.

Some models (31143 and 31159) come with a factory mounted Viridian EON 3-9x40 scope. In general a Ruger 10/22 will have a base adapter for Weaver style scopes or other mounting options depending on the model.
