Fluorocarbon line can be used almost interchangeably with monofilament, but it has greater memory and can be brittle when wound on smaller spools, or in extremely cold weather.
The best use of fluorocarbon is when fishing for species that are line shy. This line is almost invisible. The line is thinner than monofilament and diffuses light better, lowering its visibility.
For Northern Pike, muskie, and walleye it is superior to all others with its lower visibility. It's also a good line to use in areas with sharp rocks, or other structure that could damage standard monofilament.
One of the best uses for fluorocarbon is as a leader tied to braided line. It is much less visible, and the higher abrasion resistance works well for species with sharp teeth.
