The 7mm Weatherby Magnum Rifle at A Glance
The oldest and arguably the best of Roy Weatherby’s prolific magnum cartridges, the 7mm Weatherby Magnum hit the market during World War II, but didn’t gain popularity until a decade later in the boom hunting years of the 1950s.
The 7mm Weatherby Mag has impressive ballistics, especially for a cartridge that dates back over eight decades. The necked down .300 H&H cartridge that the 7mm descends from offers incredible power over distance with a smaller 139 grain bullet. It delivers in excess of 1600 foot-pounds of energy at 500 yards and has a drop of just 15.2 inches at 400 yards.
This makes the 7mm Weatherby a viable contender with the youngsters of long-range shooting in the 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.8 mm and PRC calibers. Weatherby offers four versions of the 7mm Mag in their Mark V series with barrel lengths of 26 and 28 inches.
