The 6.8 Western Rifle at A Glance

The 6.8 Western is one of the newest big game cartridges on the market, introduced in 2021. It is a remarkable caliber created through the joint effort of two of America’s leading rifle manufacturers, Browning and Winchester.

The 6.8 is the latest venture into the long-range hunting and target shooting world. Developed from Winchester’s popular .270 Short Mag, the 6.8 is designed for maximum performance and energy at long-distances with lower recoil, a challenge the two industry leaders accomplished. The collaboration continued with Nosler and Sierra contracted to develop a bullet worthy of the new design.

Browning has taken the lead with dozens of varieties of the 6.8 Western in their X-bolt and Mountain Pro model, but Winchester, Christensen, Fierce and Seekins offer varieties of 6.8 rifles as well.
