The NATO 5.7x28mm at A Glance

This is a rifle designed for police and military applications. In the 1980s, NATO called for bids to produce a pistol caliber capable of penetrating body armor, and the 5.7x28mm cartridge was the winning design.

Developed in 1990, the 5.7x28mm took the compact design of a pistol cartridge, modified the case and created a round that fit the specifications. Ruger Arms created the LC Carbine to utilize this cartridge and it features a lightweight rifle with adjustable stock and external magazines of 10 or 20 rounds. The LC is also available in the slightly more powerful and easy to find .45 ACP cartridge as well.
