264 Winchester Magnum Rifles
(0)The .264 Win Mag Rifle at A Glance
Someone had to be first, and in the world of 6.5, long-range shooting, that honor goes to the Winchester 264 Magnum. Introduced in 1958, it was a cartridge well ahead of its time in terms of velocity and long-range power. It has the power of the .270 Win with better long-range performance and thinner bullet that gives it a ballistic edge over the .270.
The .264 is a flat shooting cartridge with an effective kill distance on big game of around 325-yards. It doesn’t have the performance ballistics of the 6.5 Creedmoor or the 6.5 PRC, but it is a venerable round that that has taken its fair share of pronghorn, deer, feral hogs and black bear.
Offered in the traditional Model 70 in either 24 or 26-inch barrel lengths, and with two classic walnut stocks and a new synthetic offering, it is a rifle with a nostalgic touch.
