Barrett M82 A1 50BMG
The Barrett Model 82 is nothing short of an American icon. This anti-material sniper rifle has been standardized by the U.S. military as the M107, though can easily be deployed as an anti-personnel rifle. Low recoil due to multiple support points ensure accuracy up to its 2,000-yard maximum effective range, with the potential to reach over 4,000 yards as a maximum range.
Barrett designed the M82 to be the first shoulder-fired semi-automatic 50 BMG. Its durability in practically any climate and reliable repower make it popular even in other countries' military organizations. The M82 is so popular that Tennessee named it its state rifle in 2016.
The Light Fifty
Coined as the “Light Fifty”, this rifle takes 50 BMG ammunition or the 12.7x99mm NATO round. The fluted barrel primarily serves the firearm for heat dissipation, though also reduces overall weight. The carrying handle and both the detachable monopod and bipod are designed for the user to set up, fire, and move the M82 easily.

Barrett M82 Models and Variants
The M82 has had many variants, though all firing the .50BMG / 12.7x99mm NATO round. The U.S. military took the M82 in on a trial phase and officially standardized it as the M107 and adopted it as the Long Range Sniper Rifle. Other variants may demonstrate changes in twist rates, different accessory rails, and design changes to accommodate specific accessories or brands of ammunition. Some M82A1s take the 416 Barrett round, others 50 BMG. Various finishes such as cerakote, parkerized, and others exist as well.

Barrett M82A1 29” fluted (.50BMG)
The Barrett M82A1 is produced in two different barrel lengths. The 29” barrel gives a slightly different feel than the 20-inch, though uncompromising in accuracy and power. The accessory rail can fit a variety of different scopes, and features adjustable iron sights as a backup if that scope breaks.
This 50 BMG caliber variant features a detachable monopod on the rear hand grip and detachable bipod on the barrel to increase comfort and operator accuracy. Two muzzle break options are available from the factory to further dissipate recoil.

Barrett M82A1 20” Fluted (50 BMG)
The Barrett M82A1 is produced in two different barrel lengths. The 20-inch barrel allows it to be stowed in more inconspicuous places than its longer brother, though recoil is not significantly increased in comparison.
This 50 BMG caliber variant features a rear hand grip cushion to buffer the 1” recoil distance and flip-up iron sights in case of scope failure or breakage. The carrying handle easily attaches to the factory M1913 rail and allows this shorter rifle to be even more portable.

Barrett M107A1 29” fluted (50 BMG)
The M107A1 is fundamentally the same as the M82A1, though the M107 was standardized for military use until 2021. Weight was cut out to make this rifle lighter, a cylindrical muzzle break that accepts the Barrett QDL suppressor was added, and a bolt carrier assembly is featured with Nickel Teflon coated bolt for less maintenance if shooting suppressed. The original M107 military issued weapons included a Leupold Mark 4 telescopic sight, thought these are not included in the M107A1 factory models.

Barrett M82A1 29” fluted (416 Barrett)
This variant is made specifically for the Barrett 416 round. Compared to the 50BMG (12.7x99mm), the Barrett 416 (10.4x83mm) is designed to be lighter, faster, and have a higher ballistic coefficient for extreme long-range shooting. This variant is just as efficient as the M82A1 (50 BMG) with the main difference in barrel type to accommodate this alternative ammunition. This M82A1 variant is also compliant in many states with certain restrictions on owning .50 caliber ammunition, such as California.
