LTL Shipping, Delivery & Returns (Oversized Freight Items)

By placing an order for an item that ships via LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) freight, you acknowledge and agree to the terms of our LTL Shipping, Delivery, and Returns Policy and authorize the designated LTL carrier to contact you by phone call, text message, or email for the purpose of scheduling and completing the delivery of your order or the pickup of a return.

Some large or heavy products—such as safes, kayaks, and other oversized items—must ship via LTL (Less Than Truckload) freight carriers.

Delivery Details

  • Carrier: Orders ship via third-party LTL freight carriers
  • Delivery Service Levels
    • Threshold Delivery: Your item will be delivered just inside your front door or, if you prefer, to the nearest accessible dry area such as your garage.
    • Curbside Delivery:  Your item will be delivered to the curb at the end of your driveway or in front of your residence. The driver will use a liftgate to safely lower the item from the truck. It is your responsibility to move the item from the curb to its final location. 
  • Access: Ensure your delivery location is accessible to freight trucks and that the item fits through doorways, hallways, or stairs
  • Failed delivery: If delivery cannot be completed due to access issues or restrictions not discussed with the carrier, return shipping costs will be deducted from your refund

Delivery Scheduling

  • Deliveries occur Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM (local time)
  • The carrier will call or text to schedule your delivery
  • An adult (18+) must be present to receive, inspect, and sign for the shipment
  • Missed or rescheduled deliveries may incur storage or re-delivery fees

Inspection & Freight Damage

At Delivery (Most Important):
  • Inspect packaging and product before signing
  • Note any visible damage on the delivery receipt and take photos
  • If damage is severe (beyond a minor touch-up or replacement part), refuse delivery and contact our Customer Service team within 24 hours
If Damage is Discovered After Delivery:
  • Keep all packaging
  • Take photos and contact Customer Service immediately if hidden damage is found
  • If damage was not noted at delivery, we may be unable to file a freight claim or accept a shipping-related return

Returns for LTL Items

We accept returns of most oversized freight items within 30 days of delivery. A Return Authorization (RA) is required before shipping any return.

Buyer’s Remorse Returns

Items must be:

  • New and unused
  • In original packaging

Costs & Fees:

  • You are responsible for return freight costs (typically $100–$1,000)
  • A 10% restocking fee may apply
  • Restocking fees may also apply if:
    • Packaging is missing or damaged
    • The item is received in used or poor condition
    • The item is not properly packaged for return shipping
    • The return was refused due to delivery access issues

If not properly packaged, or if the item shows clear signs of use, the return may be refused and sent back at your expense.

Refunds:

  • Original outbound shipping costs are non-refundable
  • Return freight and any applicable restocking fees will be deducted from your refund

By purchasing an oversized product, you authorize Sportsman’s Warehouse and/or its carriers to assess applicable fees.

Damaged or Defective Items

At Delivery:
  • Inspect thoroughly before signing
  • Note visible damage on paperwork
  • Refuse delivery for significant damage
After Delivery:
  • Do not discard packaging or the item
  • Take photos and contact Customer Service immediately (within 24 hours)
  • If damage wasn’t noted at delivery, claim options may be limited—but we’ll work with you toward possible resolution (freight claim, manufacturer warranty, etc.)

Manufacturer Defects

For manufacturing defects, we’ll connect you directly with the manufacturer to pursue warranty repair, replacement, or refund as applicable.

Packaging Requirements for Returns

  • Items must be returned in original packaging or packaging of equal or better quality
  • If the original packaging is damaged, contact Customer Service with photos before re-packing
  • Returns missing proper packaging may incur restocking fees or be refused

If a return is approved, items must be unused and shipped back in their original packaging.


Possible Additional Delivery Fees

  • Dense city surcharge (urban access limitations)
  • Remote area surcharge (For sparsely populated or hard-to-reach areas)
  • Missed delivery/redelivery fees (If no one is available at the scheduled delivery time)
  • Storage fees (shipment held at terminal)
  • Detention fees (if unloading exceeds standard time)
  • Address change or reconsignment (If the delivery address is changed after the shipment is in transit)
  • Appointment changes after confirmation
  • Stair carry fees (beyond one flight of stairs)

Unless otherwise specified, threshold deliveries include delivering up to 1 flight of stairs (typically defined as 7 steps or less).


Final Reminder

Please inspect your order thoroughly at delivery, even if you don’t plan to use it right away.

Signing the delivery receipt without noting any issues confirms that your item arrived in acceptable condition and free of visible damage.
