The FN SCAR® 17S, chambered in the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, is the civilian (Heavy) semi-automatic version of the FN MK NATO battle rifle. This semi-automatic rifle offers superior long-range accuracy, terminal power, versatility and reliability. This is the only semi-auto version of the U.S. Special Operations Command's FN MK battle rifle available on the civilian market. The FN SCAR 17S stands out from other semi-auto rifles as one of the few that was first designed entirely for military and law enforcment application.

The FN SCAR 17S Features unique to the FN SCAR 17S include a free-floating, cold hammer-forged MIL-SPEC barrel with hardchromed bore. The 17S is one the few semi-auto rifles with operating controls that are fully ambidextrous allowing any shooter to quickly adapt the FN SCAR 17S to just about any shooting position. The FN SCAR 17S also features a receiver-integrated MIL-STD-1913 optical rail, complemented by three accessory rails, to allow mounting a variety of sights, scopes and lasers. The rifle also features a telescoping, side-folding polymer stock that can be adjusted to ensure proper comb height and length of pull.
