Slow-action spinning rods are for casting lighter lures on lighter lines. They are ideal for fishing small trout and panfish.

Slow-action rods bend in the lower third, extending into the handle. They tend to be unwieldy and spongier and used less often. At the same time, their slow action and supple bend are beneficial when using crankbaits or jerkbaits with treble hooks. The cast is longer and the retrieval slower, allowing the fish time to bite – a flexible and forgiving option. Slow-action rods also provide increased cushioning to avoid straightening narrower gauge hooks.
