The 240 Weatherby Magnum at A Glance
The last rifle designed by Weatherby founder Roy Weatherby. The 240 was released in 1968 and advertised as the ultimate deer cartridge. That’s a big claim to make in the firearms market, where hundreds of manufacturers offer outstanding platforms for deer hunting, but it is arguably true.
Available only on Weatherby rifles, the 240 was originally introduced on the Mark V Weatherby. The ballistics are impressive, whether you’re chambering an 80 or 100 grain bullet. The 100 grain 240 blazes out of the barrel at 3500 fps, and delivers tremendous energy, still exceeding 1000-foot pounds at 500 yards. A competing cartridge for the .243, 6mm and 6.5 Creedmoor, it exceeds these three in ballistic performance.
