Springfield XD
The Springfield XD Series of semi-automatic pistols are used for everything fromr tactical to concealed carry to competitive shooting. The Springfield XD family of pistols are chambered in 9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, .45 GAP. .45 ACP and 10mm Auto calibers. The XD is offered in four sizes: Subcompact 3", Compact 4", Service 4" and the 5" Tactical model. XD pistols are polymer-framed making them light weight, impervious to rust and resilient. They are striker-fired, as opposed to hammer-fired, making simple to operate, use, and maintain.
The XD series of handguns are used by law enforcement and for self defense, but they've gained their reputation as one the top competitive shooting pistols. While not as well know as other Springfield pistols such as the 1911 and SA-35/Hi Power, XDs are owned by more gun owners than either of the aforementioned models. The XD was named "Pistol of the Year" by the American Rifleman and "Handgun of the Year" by the American Rifleman and Shooting Industry of Academy.

Springfield XD Model Variations
The XD model series includes four variants: the XD, XD-M, XD-S, XD-E. Both the XD and XD-S are offered in 2nd generation (Mod.2) configurations.

XD
The Springfield XD (eXtreme Duty) is the base model of the XD series. The XD is a ergonomic, easy to operate, safe defensive and competitive shooting weapon. It comes in four sizes subcompact 3", compact 4", service 4" and a 5" tactical model. Standard features included with the base model XD, and all XD variants, include 3-dot steel sites, double-stack magazines, and few other ancillary features such as grip safety and an advanced trigger mechanism. While Springfield touts a polymer-frame and striker-fired firing mechanism as the salient features of the XD, it's important to know that not all XD models include these features. XD variant features and benefits vary between model variants. The biggest difference between the different XD models are the match grade barrel and interchangeable back-straps.

XD Mod.2
The XD Mod.2 features ergonomic upgrades to base model XD, including a new "Grip Zone" technology that incorporates three textures to the grip. The new XD Mod.2 also feeatures a newer set of sites. Unlike the original base model XD, the XD Mod.2 is not chambered in either the .45 GAP or .357 SIG. The XD Mod.2 comes chambered in the 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP.

XD-M
The XD-M is a variant of the Springfield XD model introduced in 2008. The Springfield XD-M was originally chambered in the .40 S&W. Later versions of the XD-M included chamberings in 9mm and .45 ACP. The standard XD-M has 4.5-inch barrel, but it is also available in as a compact pistol with a shorter 3.8-inch barrel. The competition series of the Springfield XD-M has a longer 5.25-ich barrel, and is chambered in the 9mm, 10mm Auto, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP calibers.

XD-S
The XD-S variant of the Springfield XD introduces a single-stack magazine and slimmer grip. The XD-S also features a pre-set trigger and disassembly fail-safe that ensure the disassembly lever cannot be manipulated when the gun has a magazine in it. The slimmer profile of the XD-S make it ideal for concealed carry. The XD-S comes chambered in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. The XD-S offers an optional 3.3 or 4.0 inch barrel length.

XD-S Mod.2
The XD-S Mod.2 variant was introduced in 2018 a year after the original XD-S variant. The XD-S Mod.2 includes all features of the XD-S plus new safties on the grip and trigger. The XD-S Mod.2 is available with a 3.3-inch or 4-inch barrel, and comes chambered in the 9mm and .45 ACP. The 4-inch model of the XD-S Mod.2 is only available in the 9mm. The XD-S Mod.2 comes optics ready with optional Crimson Trace micro red dot. The XD-S Mod.2 is one of the most popular Springfield XD variants.

XD-E
The XD-E variant of the Springfield XD and external hammer and has a hybrid double action/single action which combines both single- and double-action trigger mechanisms. The XD-E comes chambered in 9mm and .45 ACP calibers.
